Don't disagree that the Roofe goal was handball, the difference being one act (diving), is a deliberate act to deceive match officials in order to gain advantage, the other (hand ball), is an "in play" offence that should have been spotted but wasn't (like so many others).

I agree with WTF, I also think there is a post match panel that specifically review dives/simulation now, so that is another reason Gayle is in hot water.

Its just another incident where a lot of people are making mountains out of molehills again.

Cheating is cheating whether it's a dive or handball. What are we saying if you work in a shop, there's different kinds of cheating - nicking a fiver from the till is worse than nicking a couple of £1 coins. Deliberate hand ball is still deception FFS and the good old English rags, have never forgiven Maradona. Perhaps the Hand of Roofe is OK!

Clearly the difference is lost on you, but that's hardly surprising given your previous "contributions", so I'll save myself a few keystrokes and resist the temptation to explain it once more.

As for Gayle getting banned, you bet your sweet ar5e we (the EFL/FA) should clamp down on all such behaviour, (whether they do or not is an entirely different matter!)

I don't think that Albion are getting a reputation. Ler's be honest, in most games there is an incident where somebody is accused of diving. In this case it led to a goal, as did the Rodrigues handball. If neither had led to a goal there would be little mention of either incident. I'm all for eradicating 'diving! from the game but let's make sure that it is done fairly and consistently and not just when a goal is the outcome. There have been many occasions when players have been booked for diving this season but no bans have resulted.

Err, wrong, James Maddison from Leicester was sent off for diving, and Vardy was given a right royal ribbing a couple of weeks ago but no penalty.

It's about the measure of deceit more than anything else. Of course hand ball and fouls etc should be noted and penalised, but the phenomenon of diving and the degree to which players will try it on to get real advantage by doing so in the 18yd box is relatively new. It's always happened, and I suspect it always will, but the sheer scale is whats new, and unless the match officials, and the post-match reviewers come down hard (no matter what club/player is in the spotlight) it will get worse, not better.
