I think your right Grist, well spotted
Is that Mike Summerbee behind Best?

They did become big mates, even though one played for City and the other for United
But you can't help feeling sorry for the bloke in the dark suit standing behind Harold Shepherdson , the one that doesn't look happy that we've just won the World Cup
Is it Jimmy Greaves?
He certainly wasn’t happy about not being picked.
They were teammates at City in the 1973-74 season.
Denis Law scored against Man United in the penultimate game of that season at Old Trafford - much to his own anguish.
Football mythology has it that Law's goal relegated United but that's not true. United would have been relegated even if they had won, due to other results going against them.
The United fans invaded the pitch (as they were prone to do in them days) The match was abandoned but the result stood.
It was Tommy Docherty who gave Law a free transfer to City. He also transferred John Galley to Bristol when he was our manager, which had a massive bearing on us getting relegated and Bristol City staying up
ooops! Sorry I thought we were still on about Denis Law and Summerbee. Not Best and Summerbee. My bad as the yanks would say

Summerbee and Best were mates and also partners in a "boutique", presumably somewhere in Manchester. Denis Law, when at Man Utd., was also a mate of some of the City players (see Fred Eyre book). Similar recently re Everton and Liverpool with the Gerrard and Rooney families, and gang.

Roger Hunt played in all 6 matches
He scored 3 of England's 4 goals in the 3 group matches
Greaves didn't score in the group matches
He was injured in the 3rd group match
Hurst replaced him for the quarter final and scored the winning goal
Greaves was still injured for the semi, so Hurst retained his place.
Although Greaves was fit for the final Ramsey stuck with Hurst and Hunt. No subs then so not even a place on the bench for Greaves.
Greaves was a fantastic goal scorer but Ramsey's decision was understandable and proved to be correct.
