Just a thought - what do others think?

It seems a little strange that we do not sign players from Scotland very often. In the past we have had Andy Lochead imho was our best centre forward in many years and of course there was Harry Thomson who was a very capable goalkeeper. I am sure many others can come up with others but I find it hard to believe that we cannot unearth a player from the whole of Scotland that cannot step up to the plate. Of course we should be able to find a similar situation in Wales and Ireland we must be missing something somewhere from Ireland we had Jimmy McIlroy probably the best player we have ever had and from Wales we have had Leighton James and Brian Flynn it doesn't take many to make a good team. We must up the ante on our own doorsteps

Seeing as we seem to have half the Republic of Ireland team on our books, I don't think there's much room left for any Jocks, and if Brian Easton is anything to go by, you can keep them all north of the border for me.

Alf totally agree but my point is there must be somewhere in Scotland and/or Wales players with the right coaching and direction could make the grade.

We haven't ignored Scotland Lancaster, besides Easton we've had Scotty, Kevin McDonald and Steven Fletcher. But Scotland is a footballing backwater now, I don't see much point in trawling for players up there any more. Which Scottish players are currently making an impact in the PL, there are one or two dossing around but the only one of note is Robertson at Liverpool and it's my understanding that we'd almost signed him when Liverpool stepped in. We've also, allegedly, been in for Hanley, Snodgrass, Phillips and Cairney so it's not as though we're ignoring Scotland or Scottish players.

Scotland used to produce some real talent. i remember in the 60's/70's the top league was packed with them.

We had Blacklaw, Lochhead, Morgan for instance.

Dave Mackay, Denis Law, Souness, Dalglish, Bremner etc etc.

When Celtic won the European Cup in 1967 I believe that every player hailed from within a few miles of the ground.

    What has happened up there?

Easton was possibly the worst player I have ever seen in a Burnley shirt and by God, that is really saying something!

Well... in 73 you joined the EU or the European Economic Community as it was called back then. Of course it could be a mere coincidence
