    Last time out

Here’s the team that played Slags away just over two months ago.

    Fitzsimons
    Turley Ward Brisley Jones
    Hewitt Vaughan Milsom
    Patching Stead Thomas

What a difference a good transfer window makes!!

Sends shivers down your spine doesn't it? Only two played yesterday and out of the rest possibly only two others you would want in your squad.

Wow that does bring it on home. We all knew that NA had to perform surgery to improve us but it has been the equivalent of an open heart operation he has done followed by an immediate recovery by the patient.

Yesterday there was a bit of outrage against a couple of posters criticising individuals in the old team after the match. Now it's the next day, maybe this will be tolerated. For me, the massive difference is in midfield. Let's leave Hewitt out of it (as long as he doesn't play) but the biggest wage thief has to be Vaughan. Would you swap your New Notts Doyle for two Vaughans?

How did we get Vaughan? Is this where Fletcher's influence came in? We just need an older head to make them gel, etc. Maybe, but it would have been nice to have a pair of legs and a heart to go with the head. It's just lazy looking no further than Forest. OK, maybe it works for youth players but older ones, where has it ever got us? Here's a list. Sammy Chapman, Martin O'Neill, Justin Fashanu, Garry Birtles, Gary Mills, Kenny Burns(!), Nigel Jemson, Eugene Dadi, Jason Lee. Did any good come of that lot?

To be fair, Martin O’Neill was easily our best player in the relegation season and Jason Lee was our top scorer one year. But otherwise I agree with you on that list of names.

Garry Birtles always put a shift in.We signed him as a striker, only to have to play him at centre half
