    Bit of trivia

I was watching highlights of the Aberdeen league cup final from 1979 last night and noticed that ‘you’ll never walk alone’ was being belted out by the fans at the end... though I couldn’t tell if this was us or Aberdeen. Can anyone ‘shed’ any light on what set of fans were signing this?

Also, the game had to be stopped for bottles being thrown at a section of the crowd! Again, could not tell if it was us or them that was doing the pelting...

What a memory! You're right. Aberdeen were wearing white strips and United wore black shorts. You must have been at the game?

During the first half hundreds of sellick fans entered Hampden in the United end after their game as called off. There was trouble for a good 20 muinutes until the weegie polls ‘segregated’ us from those filthy inbred maggots

Yeah I remember seeing that. I was in the terracing at the side where most of the United fans were. The trouble was in the so-called 'Celtic end' of Hampden where there were a decent number of arabs and a couple hundred Celtic fans who came along after their match was called off.

Sandeman - the replay at Dens was where you would have heard the Sheep singing 'you'll never walk alone' at the end of the game. They were located in the derry that night, right underneath the cameras and commentators. I don't recall the game being stopped due to bottles being thrown. But that's not to say it didn't happen. Just if it did, I can't remember it.

United fans used to sing You'll Never Walk alone in the Shed in the late 70s early 80s. I'm sure there was a rendition of this when we beat the Huns in the cup funal.

I also remember the hymn ‘We shall overcome’ was a regular song sung in the Shed around the same time

I was at the replay at Dens, I wasn’t aware of any stoppage for bottle throwing. I don’t remember anyone singing YNWA.
