Most great escapes in the past have been achieved by solid home performances at the business end of the season. We have effectively dropped 4 points from the last two home games where a goal or two would mean we had won.
Today’s game was one in which we lacked any bite or real threat. Enzio should have scored with the best chance of the game from either side. It was a frustrating afternoon as we did not seem to have the urgency.
We need players to take risks and chances as we need points quickly and need wins. That may mean we end up ultimately drawing or loosing games but we are getting to the stage where we will need to take these gambles. I felt we were a bit cagey today.
Everyone wanted to see what Rose was like in midfield and we saw.
Big Jimbo was a loss today. His energy and never say die attitude is what we needed
Immediately afterwards I felt like it was two points dropped. But in hindsight we have picked up 4 points from both Carlisle and Morecambe this week. Had it been the opposite way around then we would have been raving and saying how brilliant drawing 0-0 away at Carlisle and beating Morecambe at home 3-1 was.
So the positives from today is we kept a clean sheet, Duffy played well and it was good to see Tootle back in the right back slot. Rob Milsom deserved his man of the match and had been really good in the left back role. Whilst we have dropped back to the bottom we have gained a point on Yeovil. Plus it’s two games unbeaten.
At the end of the day we just cannot outfight teams in the bottom half of the table who we are expected to beat. It’s as simple as that. So if we are to stand a chance of staying up ironically we need to do the business against the better sides where we seem to perform better as the underdog
