FA Cup 5th Round v Arsenal in 1969.
I queued for 4 hours in the snow and freezing temperatures to get a ticket.
The match was called off because of the weather and I was away in Kent for the rearranged date.
Saw the "highlights" on a tiny black and white TV in the grotty digs I was in.
My mates told me there was a fantastic atmosphere with a huge crowd - and we won 1-0.
I still have the ticket, complete with stub!

Great match. Tony Brown scored after 69 mins or something like that. The Brummie Road cascaded forward. I was near the back and turning round it was empty for about 20 yards behind me. How people never got crushed I don’t know.

During the 70’s I lost count of the number of times I lost my shoes during “knees up mother Brown” in the Brummie Rd.
I ended up on my a r s e a few times and it was terrifying yet adrenalin filled madness that I loved.
You had to learn to ride the wave of bodies,being young helped!
Anybody standing within ten feet of a crash barrier was a moron.
No surprise to me that so many died at Hillsborough........in hindsight I was in the middle of a death trap at every home match.

That was a really great night. I was in the Brummie. The dour defensive Bertie Mee Arsenal were just emerging and it looked like they were going to frustrate Albion. Then Ian Ure (I think) headed the ball into the path of Tony Brown. The surge forward started just as he met the ball and I lost sight of it hitting the net. Things got better when I saw them win at Stamford Bridge in the 6th round. Semi Final against already relegated (?) Leicester. That looked pretty straightforward. I couldn't go to that 'memorable' game as it was a school field trip and did not find out the result for hours. A nervous wait and what a disappointment.

Having missed out on a cup final ticket the previous season, despite being at the semi final, my dad decided we would do all the cup games the following season, collecting the stubs in order to gain a final ticket. He didn't drive so we did them all by train. What a disappointment that semi final was! We barely had a shot and Ossie let an Alan Clark shot in that Crighton would have stopped with one arm tied behind his back.
I finally got to see Albion play at Wembley v Port Vale. Great day out. We had a thriving Gloucester supporters branch back then and comfortably filled a coach.
The next time was Derby.
