That might seem very hard to understand to anybody who's not been there. They might think "isn't he content with 200quid, 2 grand or 20 grand or 200 grand ". It doesn't work like that. Wins mean less and the losses harder.

In most cases gambling is just a side show, summat that first is appealing but in time it consumes you and taxes you both mentally and physically. It is an illness but gambling I believe is cultivated to draw people in and keep them in. It's a clever and complexed way of dictating vulnerable peoples lives to make millions of pounds, well, not clever in my opinion but all the same legal and socially acceptable. The gambling companies know exactly how addicted gamblers minds work and devise strategic patterns in gaming machines to draw you back constantly. The government has it's pound of flesh out of it too. It's disgusting really but its true.

I've gambled all my life. From being a kid in the amusement arcade to now. I don't bet everyday but sometimes my mood can sway the sensibility I've taken years to try and get under control into utter chaos. It's the unpredictability of it all, it's really difficult to explain without being too personal so I'll leave it at that.

I knew a gambler that topped himsen, had 2 young daughters barely art o nappies and a lovely wife. Sometimes i wonder if he'd been afforded professional help to the tune of Gascoigne and Merson or Tony Adams whether he'd still be here today and a dad to his daughters whether he gave gambling up or not. That's the bottom line for me.
Respect your honesty Pass , it's not easy to talk about our personal flaws in life and we all have them .

    Great post mate .

Nearest I've come to a gambling addiction would be a great love of three card brag .

Get me involved in that game and it's difficult for me to walk away .

Many many years ago I played on a saturday night after the pubs shut , all nighter if you want , it went on while 10am sunday morning sometimes .

Loads of booze and snap going on and you took in turns to host the thing .

This wasn't the £1 blind type of game , you turned up with a few quid .

The thing I liked about it was the fact whilst I couldn't keep away from these nights I could control my own destiny too .

I ain't going to go £100 seen with a handful of nothing although I've seen that come off and win BIG with a bluff and a pair of balls .

I've gone home with a good few quid and I've lost a bit too .

I wouldn't like to go back to that in all honesty because I know I'd be just as enthusiastic and with my life today it wouldn't be compatible .

In other words JLO would feckin kill me .

Appreciate the thoughts gents. I'm fortunate to have a Mrs that tries to understand and doesn't judge. She listens and is a tremendous help whenever i need it. Others aren't so fortunate

I don't want to stop betting to be honest mate, just control it better and stop the odd blowout I tend to ev nar an ageeun.

Over the years I've learned to control things to a certain degree but you never know when the next lapse is due. No financial harm(no debt) has been done despite my lifetime addiction and I'm proud o that, Av paid me house off but that's darn to me being honest with the Mrs and us both working together at it, there's many a blowk has a big win and keeps it to himsen, am not like that, I hand it over. She giz me a weekly quota and if I wanna exceed it she'll want to talk it thru and know why and generally gives me it within reason. A tell thi am a lucky blowk to ev her.

In that respect Merson faces the same issues as everyone else , rich or poor .

I have a mate who has a huge gambling problem , has done for the best part of 20 years , he can blow £800 in on a sunday afternoon quite easily .

He doesn't have a bet everyday which is another thing about his addiction , there are different types of addiction but when he does it's brutal .

One thing I've learned about his problems is that he has something in his head that I gladly don't have .

If I win I can walk away and take my money , he can't , I've seen him up a couple of grand and still ended up out of pocket hours later .

Oh I've lost it with him on many occasions , told him some home truths , it works for a few weeks and then he relapses and repeat .

Following this he then goes in to a deep depression that can last anything up to a week .

To be fair he's never asked me for anything which is just as well because I wouldn't lend him it .

None the less it's terrible to see him at his lowest but ultimately it's down to him to rid himself of this addiction / illness .
Sums up for me how the country is Animal. Most of them want someone else to cure their ills for them, or blame them for causing them. Not work to rid themselves of their ills.

And in that vein, I hope your well and the job situation ( Which you haven’t mentioned for a while, ..... credit to you) is moving forward.
