    Queen of the South's Birthday . . .

    . . . tomorrow when it will be 100 years old !
In Dumfries Town Hall in Buccleuch Street on March 21st 1919 a few months after the end of WW1 a meeting was packed
with the local football fraternity to establish a senior football team for the then separate (towns / burghs) of Dumfries and Maxwelltown. It was unanimously agreed that a club should be formed and a large majority went for the name Queen of the South. The club's centenary dinner is on Saturday 23rd in the Cairndale Hotel and next Tuesday in the New Bazaar public house (then a hotel) a private soiree will be held as the first formal meeting was held there.
