    Cashing in

Ok just say we’re safe and Rafa has signed a new deal ( those both would be immense)

Now rebuilding the squad... we all know who we would get rid of..all the deadwood

    But

If we had some decent bids come in for good players (it’s gonna happen) e.g. schar ,shelvey or dubravka

Would you cash in on them ?

Dubravka say bid for £30M from juve’
    Or
    Schar £25M from Spurs

Would you cash in like we did with Andy Cole
If we got the lot to spend on strengthening the team
Or do we turn down all bids for fist teasers?

It depends on the circumstances, overall.

For me, it's about who wants to stay at the club or who wants to go to bigger and better clubs....or bigger and better transfer fees for their own pocket.

If Juve or Spurs come in for our players with money offers like that, I highly doubt Rafa or the pull of this club is going to stop them going...or at least wanting out and hoping to be granted that wish, which...for me, would be granted, because I don't want any player playing for this club who does not want to play for the club.

    It can become counter-productive.

The good thing is in how it shows that we do have a squad that can compete in this league and a few additions to it is all that's needed to push on.

    Good thread.

I'm sure when this sort of thing comes up, most of us would think 'ah, but would the money be spent? But, like you say, if we knew all of the money would be made available to Rafa then the answer is 'yes'.

No matter who you think is 'irreplaceable' in a team, players always come and go and you rebuild. Sometimes you're lucky and find a hidden gem...Tiote, Dubravka or spend relatively little on a player who turns out to have been a huge bargain (Rob Lee, Speed, Ginola, Ferdinand). Then sometimes it works the other way-Des Hamilton for Ferdinand (little bit of sick came up there). Then there are the big buys who turn out to be shite (something we specialise in)-Luque, Viana, Cabella, Thauvin, Boumsong, etc, etc. All depends on how the men in charge spend the money...and who knows who the feck is in charge of our money.

Right...sorry, waffled quite a bit there.(I'm filling in a job application so looking for any distraction )

I'd accept decent money for Shelvey as he's just not consistent enough and Longstaff has shown that you can have a killer pass but also have a lot more to your game.
Schar for £25 million? Aye, I think I would, actually. Defensively I don't think he's as sound as I'd like despite what he offers in other areas of the pitch.
Dubravka? No way. He's our new Pav. I think with 'keepers, once you've got a good one, keep him.
Lascelles? Hmm...wouldn't be arsed either way, tbh. I think the off-the-field stuff around Ashley and some of his dodgy performances (coming back from injury) have maybe made us forget how much he's come on and what his potential is. As a no-nonsense defender and Captain, i think he offers us a lot but, if a big enough offer came up, then he could be replaced.
Yedlin? Definitely...I think we could do a lot better in terms of a replacement being a better defender-but I'm not sure who would be arsed about buying him.
    Perez? Aye...I know he's done well-really well-recently but...I still would.
Ritchie? Yup...aye, hard worker, great attitude, etc...but creates a chance with his crosses maybe once a game?
    Diame? See ya.

Now I'm not saying I'd get shot of these players but if a decent bid came in then i reckon we could do better.

Mind, I said the same about Simpson.

If Rafa stays then his idea of a project to achieve something will have been accepted. This means keeping all players who aren´t deadwood. You might think that many of our players aren´t good enough for us to challenge top 6 but most of them are more than adequate back up.

I would certainly not sell Scahr nor Dubravka, but would be less bothered if Lascelles or Shelvey went. Lascelles is a good player but, I still think he´s 4th choice CB for us now. If we could get a hefty price for him (otherwise keep) then he could go. I like Shelvey but I´ve always seen him as a luxury player. Brilliant on his day but equally frustrating when he doesn´t track back and their midfielder is free in the box to score.

Apparently Arsenal think Dubravka would cost them around 4.5 Million.

Then Arsenal can go and stuff themselves and do a bit of scouting for themselves instead of letting less well off clubs doing all of the hard work unearthing treasures such as Dubravka.
