I still curse the day a few students managed to block sir John hall from building our new stadium, claiming it would ruin green belt land.....

I think it was a woman who walked her dog on the land given by the council that started the petition to block the new stadium.

I believe the plans included a cinema complex,bowling allley plus restaurants etc.

Of course the Toon didn't need the extra jobs created so a dogs toilet was preferred choice.

I also believe a bunch of students took their petition to joker park to get extra signatures...

The project was to turn st James into an indoor arena and completely landscape and re*****ise leases park and spittal tongues....


But you're right a flashers hideout, glue sniffers den and dogs toilet was the preferred option.

Just shows what can be done with forward thinkin ambitious owners who invest sensibly to keep their club at the top.

Just look to the first season we were relegated under Ashley. At one point early in that seson we were sitting 3rd bottom and Spurs were on the bottom. They looked at their problem, invested and finished respectably top half that season while Ashley scrimped and blood sucked and took us down.

The rest is history.

Good for a club who were only just on a par with us or beneath us before our illustrious owner took over. It just shows what can be done with prudent money management and sensible investment.
