    OT old Dumfries - Oughtons

Somebody asked me the other day what was Oughtons called before it was Oughtons? Had a quick look on the internet but couldn't find it.

I realise that it stopped being Oughtons from the late 80's (?) and many of our younger fans won't remember Oughtons at all. I think it is currently The Venue but I've not been there since, er, 1980? St Andrew Street.

    Grateful for help here

Can remember it called OASIS , then Judy Chicago’s and it’s been called the Venue for a good few years now.

During the second world war the Norwegian Armed Forces were stationed there and it was called Norges Hus

Was it not known for a while as "The Beachcomber Bar" That would be around the early 1970's when Slade performed there? Or was the Beachcomber somewhere else?

Reo Stakis had Oughtons in the 60's. It was a steakhouse on the first floor and the Beechcomber Bar was on the ground floor.
I recall local businesses using it for staff Christmas dances etc.
As was The Imperial Hotel and the magnificent Lyceum Theatre. Who allowed that to be pulled down?
Anyone got photos of the Lyceum?
The young folk of the town would be gobsmacked at what used to be there between Assembly Street and the bottom of Nith Place.
Mc Dowells, Cathron Hotel, Lyceum, Bouskills the Bakers, a sweetie shop which I can't remember the name. There was a pub also, blue bell or something like it. Run by the Black's. Coop. Rapid Cleaners, Frobishers fruiterer, Duke Swan, Kerr Little, Gas Board, City Bakers, The german watch repair shop, The Lyver pub, Gashouse closes etc Have I missed anything?

The pub was known locally as the Blin Mans but I think its real name was the Queens Arms
