    Sorry but Ardley isn't the man for us in the future, he took us on in a better position than we are now and has played two and a half months with some of the better players in this league but we still can't compete. You want us to give him credit for two wins against Carlisle and Stevenage, big whoop. Not good enough, prepares the team all week according to his post match interviews but have no style of play or clue most Saturdays.

    Agreed changing managers all the time doesn't work but would I want him for the battle and rebuilding job that is coming? Not sure he's proved he's worth the chance in all honesty.

    Well said Sid !

    Martin Allen is regarded by Chesterfield fans as the worst manager in the club's entire history.

    * His team played awful football.
    * Couldn't stop leaking goals.
    * Couldn't score goals.
    * Created nothing.
    * Couldn't buy a win for several months.
    * Tactically inept on all levels etc etc etc.
    (All this you can read and more on 'Bob's Board', the most popular Chesterfield FC messageboard)

    Sounds familiar ?

    Sounds very similar to what we have now???

    In addition, the poor fcuker nearly died of heart problems - probably bought on by the stress of fottball management at this level.

    Whatever makes people think that Martin Allan, a likeable-inept-has-been, could save our fatally holed and sinking ship ?
    FFS Klopp, Pochettino, Allah or Jesus couldn't save us now...

    His spell at Chesterfield and the crap run of form they had isn't really relevant though, Allen has shown time and time again he is a specialist in avoiding the drop to the conference when he comes into a club late in the season, he's only failed once as far as I can remember and that's the only thing we should be bothered about at this point, he's a desperate measure and at this point we're pretty desperate, I don't think anyone is suggesting we sack Ardley and bring in Allen on a 3 year contract but we need someone like him to come in for these last few games and figure the rest out after.

    Ardley certainly can't and he's had half a season and a new team to help him. Context is king, this is not fans moaning about being mid table cos they want promotion. This is our League status, he ought to have been sacked 10 games ago.

Fair to say his football was crap at times but he loves the club and if the worst was to happen I wouldn't mind him at the helm when we try to rebuild.
    Why are Notts fans so obsessed with bringing people back for second spells?

    Derry took over in League 1 around the same time Ardley did this season and did an equally poor job in keeping us up where a good manager would have had us safe way before the last game of the season. For some reason Derry gets the credit for a "great escape" because most fans were sucked into the hype about him being one of our own.

    If we stay up this season I can't imagine everyone will look back on Ardley with anywhere near as much praise as Derry still somehow gets.

    No doubt the new owners (if they are genuine) will come in with their own ideas, which may or may not involve giving Ardley a chance. Either way though, they need to avoid the mistake of previous owners, which has been to listen too often to the fans' calls for managerial changes. Football message boards like this are great for letting off steam after a bad result, but they should play no part in forming or influencing a long-term strategy for the club. NCM, Twitter, Facebook and other forums give vent to immature and instinctive reactions, whereas the people plotting the long-term strategy for the club need to rise above and separate themselves from such short-term emotion. This is where Ray Trew and Alan Hardy, with their respective social media experiments, went badly off course.

    From what I saw yesterday, possibly the last Notts away game in the EFL that I ever see, it's too late.

    Pravda said even Jesus couldn't save us now, but say a prayer if you think it might work.
