Wat stats ? 5/6 Premiership clubs get lowa crowds ? Who ? Can you name them ? Al githi a start Bornmuff , the other 5 ?
I can't help thinking that if the Blunts do go up to the PL at the expense of Leeds United that it's a bit of a waste of a good PL place .
Leeds United are one of the biggest clubs in the country who if promoted will punch their weight and possibly challenge for honours in a couple of seasons time .
You could also make the same case for midlands giants Aston Villa .
If you look at history the Blunts are a bit of a basket case , Leeds United , Sheffield Wednesday and even Huddersfield Town have won far more major honours .
The Blunts are a good solid championship club at best and don't really belong at the top table of english football and the odd promotion to the PL every 15 years is generally followed by immediate relegation and a further drop in to the third tier .
It's best these days to accept your limitations otherwise life can get frustrating and you soon find yourselves obsessed by a third tier club from a small town 12 miles away .
It goes without saying of course that fans of Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday have always generally had bigger fish to fry and wouldn't sink to such depths .
Tha carnt knocca nail inna knot Animal , a meeun arr thick Cantha get wi wun earrd ? Wardy is a Numptee , still bitta abart Jan Aga Fjortoft joining a better club, Brian Deane left same day WHY ?
Yorkshires so called 'big' football clubs have really been in the doldrums by their fans own high standards in last 2 decades.
Despite their fans unrealistic high expectations, in demanding a minimum of at least regular top flight football for their respective clubs whilst the more deluded supporters of these so called 'big' clubs expect to be running alongside the country's elite contenders, challenging for honours or even competing in European football.
Sadly for them and by their supporters own high standards they have been perennial under achievers over a period of 2 decades, the statistics over that 20 year period make for pretty grim reading if you are an avid follower of one of these teams. The 3 Yorkshire 'giants' record in recent seasons speaks for itself....
Wednesday last played top flight football nearly 20 years ago, they've been mostly mid table to lower end championship in the time since, have been relegated to lg1 twice as well and nearly going bust. Their last major trophy was a shock victory in the league cup of 1991 whilst at the time being a second tier club. Their last championship triumph came in 1930 and last fa cup triumph in 1935
The blades have had one solitary season in the top flight since 1994. They've also spent 6 seasons playing in league 1 out of those last 25 years. Their last major honour came way back in 1925 (FA Cup). Their last championship triumph was in the late Victorian era way back in 1898. Their 2017 league one title win made them only the 4th club in English football to have won all four divisions.
Leeds united have not laiked top flight football since 2004 and have also spent time languishing in lg1. Their last major honour was the old first division championship in 1992. Their solitary FA cup triumph came in 1972. They have succeeded in Europe winning the Fairs cup twice and being robbed of lifting the greatest club prize of the European cup in the mid seventies.
The past records of these clubs are to be respected. Leeds obviously hold a much better recent history in the Don Revie era. They are truly a big club who realistically should be in the top 6 of English football.
The Sheffield clubs however, despite their success in the early 1900s are in the same bracket as the likes of Preston North end and Huddersfield town. Proud history's in a bygone era but non competitors at the higher end of football for almost a century.
