    Bolton apparently saved......

    Latest on Bolton Wanderers....

Former Watford owner Laurence Bassini says Bolton Wanderers have been saved from administration "at the 11th hour" after he agreed a deal to buy the club.

The takeover, which remains subject to English Football League approval, was confirmed by the club on Wednesday.

The agreement will also give Bassini full control of the hotel at the University of Bolton Stadium.

"The priority was to save the club from going into administration," Bassini told BBC Radio Manchester.

"Now we have to look to restructure and move the club back up to where it belongs.

"We worked very, very hard to get the deal done. It was very close, to going to administration this morning. At the 11th hour, we did it, going through the night."

Wanderers, whose players have still not been paid their March wages, could be relegated to League One on Friday.

Bassini also confirmed that existing owner Ken Anderson's involvement in the club will end once the purchase is formally ratified by the EFL.

"Significant funds" will be made available to pay outstanding wages and long-term creditors, a Bolton statement said earlier on Wednesday.

In 2013, Bassini was given a three-year ban from being involved in a position of authority with any EFL club.

How can they ratify his clearance in football looking at his previous ban from football? It will get passed though so Bolton don't go under such be the powers in football.

Simply escaping from one big bucket of sh@t only to fall straight into another one. We've been there, although I don't think we've been run by such shady folk as Bolton, Anton Johnson aside.
I would be seriously concerned if someone like that took over our club.

Yep frying pan to fire with the help from those supposedly looking after the best interests of football.

    Laughable

Weird how this almost always happens to football clubs but not other businesses.

Are you suggesting that Gazza as our manager might not have been a good idea? How did their financing company work out?

Not many! The club would have been renamed 'Earth United', playing at the Earth Arena (Millmoor!) and managed by the "dream ticket" Bryan Robson and Gazza! It could have worked!...

Assuming this is the only deal on the table and the FA block this, guy, the club will fold.

Why does football attract people like Bassini? Remember Darren Brown at Chesterfield.

    Reading this about Bassini....

Should not be anywhere near football. Why has the current owner (or is it the liquidator) entertained him. Places the league in an impossible position.

I would really like to see what criteria the FL use to determine 'fit and proper' when assessing potential club owners because many of them are 'fit and proper' but I'd rather not say what for!
