If Rafa stays then I'm sure he'll be staying with the go ahead to add and trim as required, to an extent.
A complete overhaul would not make sense. It's a slow build, or should be, because 99% of the entire squad are his players. Very few of them are inherited.
It's fairly clear who'll be going in some but not so clear who'll be surplus in others.
One thing for sure, we should be looking to enhance the forward mindset to balance out the defensive stronghold we have, when we buy (assuming Rafa signs)...unless we lose a top defender for whatever reasons.
The problem right now is the classic media speculation of players wanting out and Rafa arguing over signing on, or the club willing to give this and that or not.
It feeds best guesses and wild speculation, not to mention arguments between fans who have wildly differing opinions on what is and what isn't....or potentials.
Gotta say I agree with this. It doesn't make sense to let 10-15 first team players leave. Remember this; our squad may not posses the desired quality, but there's a togetherness there that has carried us through this and last season. To break that up over the course of one window would be madness.
If given, say, 150m (I know that's aiming high) I hope Rafa only brings in 5-6 players. Players, mind you, that will improve the side in terms of quality in various places and thus will cost more than what we usually go for. 5-6 Almiron-type signings if you will.
What they did at Fulham was basically replace the squad that got them promoted by spending silly amounts of cash - they'll be in the fizzy next year, one league above Sunderland
So, spend money - a lot of money would be nice - but spend it wisely. I'm sure Rafa will do just that, if given the funds. Obviously some players will leave, and that's good, but let's not ship them all away at once. They have done a great job for us to be fair.
