    I'm not too keen on Michael Owen but he does raise a point.
    No club should hand control to a manager.

    Ferguson,Shankly,Paisley and others were giving massive control in all areas.That is what managers in all walks of life do.

    At the end of the day directors or owners hold the purse strings but you must pick a man then let him run the show.

    I disagree.
    You pick a man and you tell him what you want from him and what you're willing to do. They work on that premise.
    If they don't want to work on that premise or believe they're bigger and better than that or they are not happy with what they are given, then (if their contract backs them) they can threaten to walk out and call breach of contract or they can negotiate something.

    Allowing control by a manager who has no affiliation with the club can be recipe for disaster in terms of financial dictation for players.
    Managers come and go, no matter how much they're placed on a pedestal and idolised. No club should even be in a situation where a manager has overall control.
