If memory serves me right Wendun, had some ideas but unfortunately got shot down for them. I honestly can't remember the content of his proposal but at least it could have been a starting point.
Yes, voicing those ideas when I argued against Tony Stewart taking over got me a great deal of aggro on MM and elsewhere. The paternalistic model of football ownership where a club relies on the whim of wealthy individual(s) is too deeply ingrained in the psyche of UK supporters. In the case of RUFC a fan-based solution is a non-starter due to a number of factors - separation of ground ownership, unhelpful attitude of RMBC, lack of a nucleus of well off business/professional supporters etc. You have yourself pointed to the irony that some of the most enthusiastic adherents of the TS dictatorship are our own MM socialists.

As to the style of football Warne has achieved something of a minor miracle: an awful, negative style but one which has proved entirely ineffectual. The reason for this - I would suggest - is that the team and club suffer from a mental fragility which can only come from the manager. They always look likely to concede, to throw away a promising position and generally to bottle it. Old style hoof ball can work but it has to be married to a kind of Millwall/Wimbledon crazy gang mindset where other teams are frankly scared to death.

It's a bit harsh to saw our style was awful to watch and too much Hoofball.
Some games were like that but not all. Some parts of games were like that but not all.
There was some great entertainment Over the course of the season.

Recent Examples would be qpr away, yesterday's game first half, Villa first half, Stoke and Swansea in both halves.
Older examples would be home games vs Derby Bristol sheff Utd sheff wed qpr forest. I'm sure there's more

I am ashamed to read this.
Football is all about money and in the Championship we are bottom in that respect.

He would have been Manager of the season had he kept us up. I know technically we are not down yet but to see those lads so distraught at Swansea they had given everything, they knew. They had just scored 3 goals at a team that was in the Prem last year and still come up short. The reason..........money.

I know it’s disappointing but be very careful what you wish for.

I agree that the style of play hasn't been the best but a lot of that has been dictated by the budget in my opinion. If we could afford better players we'd play better football, it's that simple.

There is no way Warne should go. I genuinely believe he's ahead of his time in management. I think his 'human' approach that gets mocked so often on here will eventually become the norm in football. It's the way society is going. The youth of today can't handle the 'hairdryer' treatment or being ruled through fear be it in football or any other industry. Those tactics are much more outdated than hoofing it long. I think for once Rotherham United is ahead of the curve in this respect and it would be insane to rip it up and start again. I just wish more people could see it.

PW took over a side that no one else would touch with a barge pole. He achieved promotion against expectations, and has finished above our expected final position this season. What more can the guy do?
Of course he should still be in charge next year.

Wendun, do you have any suggestions about how the club can move forward?

Having said that I would personally be willing to commit if I thought it would work.

Are we thinking of some sort of crowdfunding initiative here? I’m sure as fans we could raise enough each month to pay the wages of a couple of players?

Post that link ibs if/when you track it down please

Sorry BOTN, I can't find the link.

I had a feeling it was in the 442 magazine but can't locate it. Apologies.

There is no question in my mind that Warne should be in charge next season - if he decides to stay. Nobody could have achieved more with what he had to work with, and most would have achieved a lot less. Those calling for a different style of football are unrealistic. As Stubbs found out, try to play fancy football with players that aren't up to it is a recipe for disaster. Warne has done the best with what we had but fallen short because of a lack of resources. Lack of signings in the window was disappointing but Ipswich (to name but one) started our game at their place with five new players and look where they ended up. The one he did bring in (Crookes) has been a big success. There's no point in signing crap, just for the sake of it. To compete in this league, you need money and it just isn't there. Barring a miracle, it never will be.

I think we've got a solid foundation for a competitive League One team - even if Vaulks and Ajayi move one. We're cerrtainly better placed than when we went down last time and look how that ended up.
