    Abandonments

I was thinking about it after last nights sh@t canning. I dont think i had been to abandonment untill Cove pre season when Considine wiped out Jordan Brown in July

    Two in a season now.

Any of the elders on here got any stories of Dons abandonments.

I was at Firhill on the famous broom day. I can still remember the slightly surreal sight of that one guy trying to clear the pitch with his broom which kept falling to bits. Some Aberdeen fans took it quite badly and pelted some of the Thistle staff with snowballs while leaving the stadium. A wee bit harsh i thought.

I was at that one, and stood in the sun for the replay a few days later.

The worst one was at Pittodrie though, I can't even remember who we were playing ( possibly St.Johnstone)

Freezing, snowing, howling an absolute gale.
Electric going out all over town.
    Floodlight failure at half time.

I struggled to get home and I lived in the Spital at the time.

Aye, the Penny Daintys it was......84 ish?
We absolutely tore it up first half, think we were three nil up.
Then half time, power failure and a blizzard.

Journey back to Stoney was a bit Scott of the Antarctic.

Three absolute belters of goals too. Black(2) and Bell if memory serves? Got actually blown sideways crossing King St as there was sna on black ice and it was 3 big blokes holding each up like Bambi on ice. An hour and a half to get to Holburn Jct and the Unders in the kitchen in the dark standing round the gas hob with my olds telling us to save the gas and put another coat on

Scott of the Antarctic about sums it up.
Of course we all hung around hoping the second half would be played.

My old man had to drive home to Dyce, I remember worrying and phoning to make sure he got home.
That was a hell of a winter, really low temperatures.

    I was at that game.
Abandoned at half time if I recall.
The wind was so strong it lifted me off my feet and pushed me back a few yards as we walked home.
I was just a wee toot then though.

I was at the Parkhead one. Abandoned after an hour or so,although from memory the conditions weren’t any worse than they’d been at kick off. I think the story going about was that they wouldn’t have to offer any refund if they’d played for at least 45 mins or 60 mins or something like that.

Are you sure there was a game abandoned at Ibrox ? I mind being there for a game that was called off very shortly before kick off when we were actually in the stadium. At least , I think that’s what happened....most away days were a bit of a haze back then

Other abandoned games I was at were all at Pittodrie. The St Johnstone game in the blizzard mentioned by others , the floodlight failure against Motherwell , and the floodlight failure against Killie only a few minutes after Brian Irvine came on a sub to a hero’s welcome in his comeback after his serious health problem.

Aye, you’re right enough about Iprix, the game never actually kicked off. Same with the one at Starks Park.

Celtic straight out stole the cash from us, at a time when they were trying to keep the wolves from the door. They always sing about knowing their history but strangely never recall that incident.

Games which should’ve been abandoned. That Alloa cup game & the Falkirk one at Stenny.
