Forfar Athletic have become the latest Scottish club to announce that they will no longer issue match programmes ending a 44 - year spell in production citing sales have fallen to an unacceptable level.

I stopped buying a programme about 6 years ago as I felt the content was becoming more adverts and less features. Before anyone jumps down my throat I realise that adverts keep the cost down and the features contributors are doing it voluntarily, but basically buying a programme just stopped being appealing and a part of going to a game for me. Playing each team in the division 4 times plus the likes of P&B, and other social media sites means we are more aware of what's happening at our own club and others all the time rather than just the build up on match days. The likes of Kindle has had an effect on the number of printed books being bought, I think the social media stages are doing the same to programmes. Some of those clubs that have stopped doing printed programmes now do on-line ones to download I believe so they are out there in some form or another.

Spot on post Auld yin especially about the heavy advertising - in fact the judges at Programme Monthly described the amount in Queens programme as '' brutal '' but as you say it helps pay the printing bill.
