He cost Darren his job, fell out with board they wanted rid and Darren lost his job. With a different coach along side him we could of won the league.

Not even close the being a championship winning side!

I honestly don’t know how some fans evaluate their team.

It doesn’t matter what formation we play we can’t defend,we give the ball away too much......we can’t hold it up as our forwards aren’t capable and we lack pace ALL over the pitch.

Apart from that we’re brilliant :-(

We just needed to play to our strengths just by cutting out our goalie passing out from the back to the wrong areas and players. Reckon this has cost us at least 10 points.

Apart from Gayle - we have no strengths! Do you honestly think the football has improved since Moore was sacked? I don’t!! No pace - no creativity - static midfield - shambolic defending and the worst keeper ever seen at West Brom! Oh - we don’t have an experienced manager either due to our pathetic Board!

It’s too simplistic to say that.

Have a look back at the simple way of doing it like we did in the 70’s.

    A decent keeper.

Full backs like Batson and Statham who could defend AND overlap at pace.

Rock solid centre halves who could head a ball and read a game in Wile and Robertson.

Midfielders who could “dig”,carry the ball, create and score like Robson,Giles,Bomber,Moses,Cantello.

Wingers who could actually “wing” and get a cross in like Cunningham and Willie and Barnes.

A centre forward who was fit to wear the number 9 like Regis, superb hold up play, strong in the air, quick and powerful and with a proper goals return.

A proper number 10 like Ally Brown, intelligent and worked hard and complimented those around him as well as a decent goal scorer.

Every one of these players was home grown or a budget buy.....the most we paid was around £130k for Willie which wasn’t much even then.

The fools purchasing, coaching and managing for us now haven’t the first clue how to spot a player or build a side.

You see players like Bartley,Hegazi,Livermore and Kanu and want to weep.

Time after time we’ve missed the chance to “steal” players like Gray and Redmond from a destitute Blues and from other teams and we’ve dillied and dallied until they’ve gone elsewhere.

I think virtually every Albion fan,if given the recruitment role in the last decade could’ve put together a better squad than we have now.

Garrick,Jenkins,Pulis,Pardew and Moore have all failed miserably in this regard.

One of our scouts resigned after recommending Virgil Van Dijk who we could have signed for £750k

I think its hard to argue that daft errors have not cost us the points that would have put us 10 points further ahead. That said, it probably says more about the Championship that we are where we are as IMO we are the weakest of the 4 teams in the play-offs. Mick, the thing that gets me about your post is that it makes me realise that in all my time of following Albion, we've never shown any real ambition and have a recent history littered with what might have been's regarding the signings of players we missed out on but for a few quid here and there. I remember talking to Ally Rob in a pub, he said that Cunningham was happy to stay at Albion but we wouldn't pay the extra 100 quid a week he wanted and the board saw an opportunity to make money on the deal. Sums it up really. Just once in my life I'd like a decent owner with ambition to take the club forward rather than a penny pinching mentality that once again we demonstrate through signings that are out of contract, ageing NASL has-beens or the likes of Bartley et al who simply are not good enough.

If we get promoted it will be even worse, a new manager trying to build a squad in the Premiership is a ludicrous idea, the new manager will be under pressure from the word go, can you see our penny pinching board spending what will be required?
Personally I hope we miss out on promotion and next season with a new manager try to build a young, hungry side ( minus the likes of Johnstone, Bartley, Kanu, Livermore etc) who will be ready for promotion.
