Don't believe it's the job of the police to police jokes that people make no matter how offensive, this isn't China or North Korea, not quite yet.

As Peter Hitchens said in this week's Mail on Sunday, the police are a cross between social workers and enforcers of political correctness, they don't do what they're paid to do and are no longer fit for purpose.

You don't actually.

You only need one if you watch or record live TV or watch BBC iPlayer.

If you just watch Netflix/ Amazon Prime and ITV/ Channel 4/ Channel 5 catch up you don't need one.

You can tell the BBC online you don't need a licence, they will still send letters though and eventually send someone round, just tell them you only watch Netflix and don't need a licence and close the door, they'll come back in a year but just do the same again.

It is unfair that you can't legally watch non-BBC TV channels live without a licence though.

My stepson had a flat he used to rent out. One tenant left and the flat was left empty for 3 months. In that time the licensing people sent 8 red letter threats about needing a licence. What a waste of money.
