One thing we have got to learn and have the infrastructure in place is to scout and recruit properly. Over the past decade too many players have signed based on what they’ve done a decade ago or did in one season once, and have commanded high wages. We have then got little back in return. It’s been going on for years and has drained the club owners of cash.
There is nothing wrong with signing 30+ year old players because they are experienced and we will always need senior pros and experience in a team. What they need to be is the right 30+ year olds. Lee Hughes aside who was an exception I’m talking players like Jon Stead four years ago, Shola Ameobi and our old captain Neal Bishop up the road. Players who are still fit and have the hunger and desire and skill to make a difference.
Mix that with a good blend of youth who are hungry and want to make their mark on the game and that’s the foundations laid.
