One thing we have got to learn and have the infrastructure in place is to scout and recruit properly. Over the past decade too many players have signed based on what they’ve done a decade ago or did in one season once, and have commanded high wages. We have then got little back in return. It’s been going on for years and has drained the club owners of cash.

There is nothing wrong with signing 30+ year old players because they are experienced and we will always need senior pros and experience in a team. What they need to be is the right 30+ year olds. Lee Hughes aside who was an exception I’m talking players like Jon Stead four years ago, Shola Ameobi and our old captain Neal Bishop up the road. Players who are still fit and have the hunger and desire and skill to make a difference.

Mix that with a good blend of youth who are hungry and want to make their mark on the game and that’s the foundations laid.

I wonder why it's not been made public yet as this was a week ago now?

Would try and emulate a budget Munto team. Small squad, imposing leaders at the back, bloodhounds in the middle who will chase all day long and not do anything over elaborate on the ball with wingers who can cross the ball fairly consistently with two absolute nuisances up front.

Hopefully with a full pre-season Dennis can rediscover his form prior to joining us and I'd offload Hemmings in favour of Dennis actually. Get Jon Stead on the protein shakes and he can be our Delroy off the bench. But another massive must for me is a target man who is at least semi-mobile.

Would also look to sign someone like Alfie Rutherford from Havant & Waterlooville. 20 years old, 15 goals in 35 games and hasn't played for anyone near our stature and size so no doubt he'd be keen to prove himself.

Video of his goals. Nice finishes, scores with both feet and his head.

Some atrocious defending to look forward to.
