    Referee Bias

    https://www.90min.com/posts/6374668-...ool-in-2018-19

I think we all knew that there is a conscious or unconscious bias by referees in favour of the “big clubs”. Any chance of it being addressed? Maybe VAR can help?

Nope.....not a chance, as far as BFC is concerned. We just don't meet the criteria to be, despite our success, a "Premier League" team.
A small, "cotton mill town" in the North of England....nah, that's not ***y.

Surely VAR does not consider "criteria", so it will help the smaller teams, and therefore us.

VAR ? What a wonderful introduction to the game of football....a referee and the linesmen may as well not be in attendance !
Some people sat in a room, not on the pitch, reviewing every decision by video , no idea what the situation is on the pitch and taking quite a while to make their "decisions".
I think that it is destroying or has destroyed the game.
I think we all know that sometimes mistakes are made, it's a game of football, not a criminal court.
Anyway, it is all about opinions and mine is that football would be better if VAR was abolished.....

Fascinating stats, but I'm not convinced it's big club/small club bias that is responsible. Just speculating, but could it be that refs have this perception of Burnley as a team prepared to concede possesion and defend as though their lives depended on it, so they're more disposed to assuming that any foul by one of our players is just part of a cynical game plan to stop the opposition. Liverpool say, or City, on the other hand play attractive, attacking football, they aim to outscore the opposition, conceding a goal isn't such a big thing, so if they concede a free-kick, refs will be inclined to think it was probably just a fair attempt to win the ball slightly mistimed. If we mistime a tackle refs, because of the way we are set up, will be more inclined to assume it was a cynical attempt to stop the opposition playing, that's how we operate after all isn't it, and more inclined to get the yellow cards out.

Interesting way of looking at it sinkov. All the more reason to adopt a more attacking plan for nest season methinks.
Good news about Popey let's hope there's even better news coming re more attacking players.

Maybe we will Fran, we have to move on, we have to attempt to get better, and that's obviously the area we can improve. I think Sean made an attempt with the signings of Defour and Brady, but just when it seemed we might have become more of an attacking threat injuries knocked the pair of them back. Time to try again.

When will you guys realise we are a "work in progress" and can't just switch to an attacking mode at will.

The key word in there is progress and we certainly weren’t that.

I think sir Alex once hinted at that re penalties didn’t he saying if we spend 80% of our time in the oppositions box law of averages says we’ll get more penalties than others, similar view Sinkov.
