Thread: o/t Should Socialists follow football?

    o/t Should Socialists follow football?

I have recently re-joined the Labour party after much deliberation.

I decided that there is now enough of a backlash against the divisive, minority politics which has derailed the party since the late 1970's and hopefully this will mean in the next couple of years people will be focussing on the major issues like unemployment, education, NHS, health and safety in the workplace. Hopefully this will mean the ridiculous obsession with ***uality and skin colour will slide down the pecking order.

At my first meeting I got talking to a good bloke from Chapeltown in Leeds. He used to be a regular at Elland Road until he realised that the could not reconcile following a bloated Capitalist enterprise like modern day football with his Socialist beliefs.

I told him that I didn't agree with him but he did give me food for thought. Should Labour voters like myself be throwing my hard earned at billionaire football capitalists?

It's rarely used but the full quote from Karl Marx states that "Religion is the opium of the people (but football's alright")

    Go for it...

Your post fell apart when you admitted to talking to a Leeds supporter .

He was a very brave man. Had something to do with a Leeds fanzine in the 70's which tackled the racism at Elland road. Apparently it was a recruiting ground for the NF back then.

There is no backlash in the Labour Party against identity politics though, in fact they're actually ramping it up.

With Leeds having a large Jewish community it should be high on the Labour Party’s “must visit” places

Leeds had a massive NF following. Check the Birmingham riots when Leeds went to St Andrews 1985. Racial hate from Leeds fans sparked a massive pitch invasion with 1000s of blood thirsty brum fans trying to get a the Leeds fans penned in the corner . The brum firm being mixed races hated Leeds and that carrys on even today .

The NF also used to recruit on the forecourt of Millmoor.
I bought their magazine once just see what they were all about and it was like the forerunner to Viz comic or the Sunday Sport....Elvis found on the moon type of headline
Hilarious some of the stuff they were claiming including canabalism being rife amongst the negro population of GB
