Im in a total split mind over all of this. It's not that often that clubs will directly name players they are looking to bring in. So the way Im seeing it - a couple of things could be happening.

Shankland and Gauld are all but United players and it's all going to come out very shortly (the more optimistic reckonning)

or

The club are throwing names out there to keep us lot interested and keen. If this is the case though, they better expect some backlash if neither of them sign and we end up with 2nd/3rd/4th choicers whos agents have negotiated better terms because of it. (the more realistic reckonning)

Agree.

Aberdeen over the years have always signed players not deemed good enough for the ugly sisters but ok for them and to be honest it's worked out ok for them.

Gauld's agent will be trying to get him the best move available so there's no way he's coming back to us.

Think that's a good shout. Not sure if Sporting want a fee and not sure whether we still "own" 20% or that disappeared with the Noel Hunt deal.

I think he's a very decent keeper and we now have two of those on the books.

What about all the howlers Benji had prior to the playoffs? are they forgotten about now?

What about everyone who was screaming for a new keeper, few good games and its all forgotten about.
