O/T: The car industry decline - nowt to do with Brexit?

I know that's the word put out by Ford but it's a load of toss to prevent people campaigning against the decision. Of course what's happening at Ford, Honda, Nissan and Land Rover is a spin-off from Brexit.
Yes, the motor industry is at a crossroad and looking for a new direction, but all these UK factories are stable and packed with skilled workers, what was to prevent the companies from investing in new plant on established UK sites? Could it be the tariff hell that is about to break out?
The fools who think that we are only having to suffer a short term hardship for a long term gain will take about ten years to see how badly mistaken they are. History books in the 2100's - assuming climate change hasn't done its worse - will record that the serious decline of the UK came at a very fixed point in its past.

Nothing to do with the fact that Ford have fallen behind the curve when it comes to new technology, hybrid and electric cars?

Usual boring rhetoric from a losing remainer.

Worked at Toyota for 23 years. Main reasons for decline in UK car industry are over capacity in Europe, high wage costs and employee benefits in UK and increasing cost of logistics. Was in decline before Brexit vote.

... the worlds car makers have consistently overestimated demand for their own vehicles. They underestimated the rate of change away from diesel; having been told by governments that diesel fuel would be ok for now. So it's a cockup between governments and manufacturers ... nothing to do with Brexit.

I have never been able to understand why others might be able to undercut us.

    Move that to Yella's post.
