I thought it was strange that it was 'the group led by Alex May' before the revelations about his past, and then 'only advised by Alex May' afterwards.

More lies. He's heading the group that want to buy the club, and he's a convicted fraudster. Hardy cannot hide from this fact, and he will face one almighty backlash if we end up with this man in charge of our fate.

I swear, this whole sad affair just gets worse and worse. If you thought relegation out of the league represented rock bottom, think again. This is Notts, after all.

The bit near the bottom where the PR firm were going to put out that the deal was done smacks like they wanted it done very quick, definitely smells like Munto MK2.

Alex May’s role in a consortium hoping to buy Notts County was under fresh scrutiny today after new evidence emerged that contradicts claims he is only acting as an advisor.

Notts are facing increasing pressure to cease talks with the group after it was revealed that May was previously known as Alick Kapikanya, a convicted fraudster who was jailed for conning the elderly in 2014.

Lawyer Colin Dodd, who is also part the consortium, told the Daily Mirror at the weekend that May had come clean about his past to everyone involved in the deal and was being used in an advisory capacity.

But in correspondence seen by the Post, May was scheduled to attend a meeting with the head of Nottingham City Council at the end of last month to discuss his plans for the club.

The City Council have confirmed the meeting took place, but they will not proceed any further with May.

A spokesman said: “The Council was approached by one of the people involved in a consortium widely reported as being interested in buying Notts County and agreed to meet with them.

"No commitments of any sort were made at the meeting and following due diligence, there are no plans for any further discussions with the individual concerned.

“Notts County are a big part of the history of Nottingham and our football heritage, and we want them to be part of the city’s future too. The Council will always have the interests of the club at heart.”

In what was a lengthy and detailed briefing to the Council, May wrote how he and his team wanted to transform the club’s fortunes having claimed that he and members of the group had been historically successful elsewhere.

Notts County must immediately cease takeover talks with group using convicted fraudster as an advisor

“I am extremely passionate about turning around the fortunes of failing football clubs,” he wrote.

“My team and I have successfully done so at Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Darlington and Lincoln, all going on to be promoted.”

May also explained how he had bought and sold more than £40m of property in Manchester in the last few years despite the fact he was sentenced to six years in jail in 2014.

He wrote that he had an “excellent working relationship” with the Virani family, who own the Cygnet property group in London and Galliard Homes.

May said that he had already secured training facilities for Notts thanks to the help of Nottingham Forest which, he said, was owed to the contacts of his team which includes former Sheffield United players Gary Hamson and Tony Kenworthy.

But while May was being described as an advisor at the weekend, on a document the Post has seen, he counted himself as a prospective joint owner along with Dodd.

May also said he wanted to meet City Council leaders to possibly explore joint land development opportunities.

“I would like to introduce myself to the new Leader,” he wrote.

“It is no secret that the club has been subjected to failed takeovers. “We want to meet to start to build a relationship with Nottingham City Council and express our sentiment that by working together we can plough funds back into the club to ensure its survival as well as enriching the community too.

“In turn we would also like to understand NCC's sentiments and expectations - as any responsible owner would.

“We would also like to explore NCC's appetite for undertaking Joint Ventures with surrounding land that NCC currently owns.”

Notts say they will be talking to Dodd about May’s exact involvement given his past but that was met with fierce protestations by the fans who say the club should cease talks immediately.

But Dodd’s group were so confident of buying the club that a PR firm they are using are understood to have prepared a statement announcing that a deal had been completed.

National League increasingly concerned over Notts County takeover and identities of prospective owners

The latest revelations will only add further concern over May which comes at the end of a troubled fortnight for Notts who avoided being wound up at the High Court over an unpaid tax bill of £250,000.

Judge Clive Jones gave Notts until July 10 to complete a sale with fears over administration looming closer with each day that passes.

Yesterday former Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite was linked with the club but denied making a fresh bid.

But that would change if Notts were to go into administration or owner Alan Hardy decided to sell the club for £1.

That's not funny, do you want the club to be wound up.

So we have learnt that Hardy lied about 'May' being just an advisor and that at last the council seem to be acting in our interests. It's a good job someone is.
