The case for bringing back Nigel Pearson

A no nonsense manager who built the team that won the prem

    102 points in 2013-14

Took apart our 3rd place finishing side with absolute disdain

Will whip these young lads into championship winners

Matej Vydra was a great piece of business, ended up being top scorer

Marriott will be immense in his style, will benefit from a fast direct style

Get him in, Mel, and this time let him sort it out

    and the case against

    1) performance from 6 years ago is not a compelling reason. Current performance way more indicative. Let us consider that - ah yes, sacked from a team that finished in the relegation playoffs in Belgian second division in his second season

    2) took us apart - well should we go get managers just because they beat us? If so lets look at Bolton, Rotherham and Millwall's managers

    3) he has a style for sure, but not one I think is great. Especially when we go on a pre season tour of Thailand

    4) An interesting logic about Vydra, who did bugger all under a short spell with Pearson, and even less in total in the 16-17 season with 5 goals. Certainly not our top scorer that season. Yes he had a great 17-18 under Rowett in a side that played to his strengths, but at Burnley he has done nothing

    5) Maybe, maybe not, lets hope we never find out

    6) Disagree 100%. Sooner have Nigel back! Hmm no, let me reconsider that one, Pearson at least may have some ambition. Pearson, Rowett, Barton, Clough or Bowyer? If that's it then we may as well all curl up and die

I will concede that Pearson wasn't given much of a chance to prove himself, but if the stories we heard at the time he was the architect of his own downfall. I don't really see Mel as a forgiving employer (except for McClaren), and dont believe he is the right person at all.

    Absolutely, totally uninspiring.
