    Another promising U23 departs

Shame Halme hasn't been given more of a chance, did well for the U23"s / few first team displays, looked like one with good future at the club, but like so many Diaz, OConnor, shown the door - playing in a position that needs backup & competition. With the club seemingly strapped for cash, surely developing / supporting such players is the way forward, but under MB & Orta, many appear to have very short careers at ER.

I'm willing to wager on the professional coaches who seem him everyday than the fans who have seen him make 2/3 first team appearances as to whether we should be keeping him.

For what its worth he looks an ok defender, but on the ball he makes Pontus look like Lionel Messi so it isn't hard to see why he doesnt really fit into the style we are now adopting, better to move him on and get a fee than ruin his career by making him sit in the youth setup for a team he is never really going to play for.

So come on then lads, whats this kid Halme like and Im sure we're going to give him a fair chance this season in the Champship, whether hes up to it or not.

(btw I see he was born just a few weeks after we were relegated from our 1 season in the Premship, is that a bad omen or what!!).

He can definitely defend but when he needs to pass the ball more than 10 yards...

Actually think he will develop into a decent all round defender given the opportunity.

    Tahh for the replies.
We do give kids a chance, that seems to be our policy now of signing the youngsters who are always below 23ish.
Same with Malik Wilks, another one of your youngsters who had a good loan spell at Donny last season.

It looks to me like this big expansion of youth / U23s since AR took over is clearly being looked at as a revenue stream by LUFC, and not solely as a production line for the first team. The money spent on the infrastructure and support, and the sheer number of youngsters we're bringing in, suggests there's a business approach to this as much as there is a sporting one.

Nothing wrong with that though. If they are good enough they hopefully make the 1st team - if not we sell them on and amongst those that make the first team one of two may go for big money until we reach the promised land.

Sounds like a very sustainable model.
