    Carlisle Airport . . .

. . . after two cancelled attempts in the last year Carlisle Airport opens today to passenger traffic for the first time since 1993. The first flight will be to Dublin and the other regular destinations are Belfast and Southend. Might be handy if Queens ever get drawn away to an Irish club in the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup.

Interesting to see how much the flights will be priced at. This area ( South of Scotland and Cumbria) has lacked such a facility and people have to travel many miles just to get to airports, especially at this time of year. I appreciate that the current routes are limited but maybe over time they will start flying to sunnier climes.

the prices with logan air carlisle to london prices range between £90 to £144 returns ,still a bit steep these prices id say ,i could fly cheaper from manchester to rhodes greece lol .i reckon over time the short haul price from carlisle to london will plummet when more air companies start using the airport ,competition is needed to bring prices down .

As I expected, - no-one in the region has woken up to the massive potential for Dumfries and Galloway to be marketed to a truly massive audience.

15 million people live within an hours drive of Southend airport, - and here in sleepy old D&G we need to maximise that potential for the weekend travellers.

That would be a two way street for the investors in the airport, - filling up the flights and calling for extra capacity, with potential in the future for other routes to be incorporated.

Realistically, - though, on a purely self-centered basis, Gatwick has the cheapest flights to almost every destination in the world, - so hopping on a flight to Southend and taking the train into London will probably be cheaper than flying from Glasgow or Manchester.

yep jardi other roots will be the key ,i always fly abroad for my hols each year usually to pefkos rhodes ,atm its cheapest for me to fly from manchester to rhodes thats including return tickets for train to and from manchester airport is still cheaper than me travelling from dumfries to glasgow return then flights from glasgow return to rhodes are alot dearer than flying from manchester ,the manchester package is by far the cheapest way living in dumfries atm ,hopefully one day il be able to fly from carlisle cutting out the transport costs from here to manchester .
