    A New Season Arrives

The return of domestic football on Saturday heralds the start of season 2019/20. It comes with the usual mixture of hope and fear. How will it unfold? - External Link

There's certainly very little to say we should 'expect' anything great this season but then there rarely is. Competence and a little luck will provide a League Cup run to the quarters though and then we can hope for the best.

I would tend to view this year as transition, depressing though it is to have such limited goals, unless we somehow fluke another star or two. We're bringing in so many players, sorting the acceptable from the duff takes time and giving the latest batch of 17/18 year olds playing time could be invaluable. With the league being as split as it has been in decades between the haves and have nots, we have scant chance of making a sudden impact on the city clubs over a whole season but there's enough dross we can hope that we're not too concerned about relegation - certainly given the clubs in the division this year, whoever is 11th and 12th will be well and truly rotten.
