    I didn't know it was on free to air? But if it helps I watched many of the games live and most of the rest on highlights package fot about £20 on basis the tournament lasted 2 months. Quite reasonable really compared to ticket prices.

    I’m trying to get to grips with this idea that grass roots cricket is dying because youngsters can’t watch it. I do t know any family with a young male in my friendship group that don’t have sky sports so in their case it’s not really the issue, I can’t help thinking it’s the length of time even short form
    Games take that’s killing it

    Just glad it wasn't decided on wickets lost, which may have been more sensible, but by which we'd have lost
    Surprised that wickets lost never came into it and I think I agree with Tendulkar. Badly thought through but as you say...’those are the rules’ and everyone knew beforehand...or should have. Suppose nobody really anticipated a tie.

    Think it’s to do with the weather and the increased need for instant gratification these days, Andy.
    Cricket, probably more than any other major sport, succumbs so regularly to the rain and demands so much time in comparison to other activities.
    I love the game but hate the frustration of just sitting around waiting for the rain to stop or the light to improve.

    So first day of BoJo led test cricket and we are humbled for 85 by a minor league nation. Does this portend what is to come by 31-10?

    Nil desperandum, Parky...we lost to Scotland this time last year...then look what happened.

    Besides...we aren’t going to attribute the World Cup to May...not sure I see Rory Burns opening next Thursday though.

    I suspect he will. What alternatives are there?

    Already played and proved not good enough - Jennings, Stoneman, Hameed, Robson, Lyth;

    Left field picks - Brown (Es***), Gubbins (Middle***), Dent (Glos), Bell Drummond (Kent)

    Non openers to fill in - Root, Bairstow, Ali, Woakes (!), Vince

    Denley not good enough, a few youngsters not ready, especially not ready for an Ashes debut

    I suspect the best option could be to sacrifice the captain and make him open, which he has done before.

    For me...Bairstow, Roy, Root, Stokes, Buttler, two from Ali, Rashid and Foakes, Woakes, Archer, Broad, Anderson.
