Bit tricky getting close enough to give it a wave 59, it was like football match, six deep around the bridge and I had to park 100 yards away. No idea why it's so popular, nothing else draws crowds like that, maybe it's just the name ?

I remember when it was being renovated, (maybe 5/6 years ago?) in a shed in Heywood.

It's first outings were on the Rawtenstall to Bury line and it just had it's dark green undercoat on at that stage.

I have a lot of local knowledge of that line and me and Mrs 59-60 made our way to a wooded area which is right next to the line.

The train approached...and for some reason it stopped right next to us for a couple of minutes. It was a magnificent sight but I was surprised at how small it looked.

Good luck with your new career as a steam train driver - I think it was most boys dream to be one back in the day.

I saw Flying Scotsman last year at Long Preston, it had just left Hellifield and was drifting along, there was a diesel on the back that was doing most of the work. It wasn't working that hard yesterday and again there was a diesel on the back giving it a lift, it always disappoints me, it seems like cheating, that engine doesn't need any help, it almost demeans it. In summer there are steam engines coming through Clitheroe on a weekly basis, some beautiful classic engines, there's the usual half a dozen of us turn up to see them, Flying Scotsman comes through and half the bloody town turns up, beats me.
