The sale of Jansson got me thinking about what Bielsa's planning to improve upon from last year; how he might be refining the squad…and the concept of a ‘unit’ rather than a ‘team’.

To me, it’s obvious that Bielsa wants a unit, rather than a blend of players. He requires the players to play ‘his way’, rather than any adjustment in style to fit the squad. That doesn’t mean he wants automatons, because his dynamic, expansive system simply wouldn’t work…rather, he requires ‘soldiers’, acutely drilled, super-fit, so that when they play they are a unit, not a team of skilled individuals.
Jansson fell into the latter category…so he’s gone.

Bring on ‘Season II’.
