You are right that he negotiates within the remit given to him by the club (normal business procedure really) but he does have executive responsibility to conclude a deal.
Unfortunately for him that makes him "Johnny on the spot" which means he can sometimes attract unfair criticism from supporters when none of us really know what constraints he is working under.

That is what I was getting at earlier, Mellow.

A good or a bad sale / purchase price should never be Douglas' fault.

For some reason Douglas gets a lot of flak, not sure why because the vast majority of fans don’t know the definition his role at the club, what he instructed to do nor how much influence he holds.

Either way if things go right he gets no praise, but if things go wrong he gets both barrels from the fans.

He’s retained his role for several years so he’s either thick skinned or it pays too well to walk away from all the flak.

Our squad looks quite unbalanced at the moment. Slow progress in bringing players in, even on loan. We can only guess at the reasons. Last transfer window we had 8 players as transfer targets, but we only signed one (although he did turn out to be good). With all the summer departures, we are going to need more than just one new signing before the deadline. Let's hope that we don't end up just hearing the same old excuses

The squad is certainly unbalanced, having no true wide players and we have got to get a central defender in, also assuming the goalkeeping situation has been solved.A lot of fans are asking why we are not bringing in players and where's all this money gone.

Transfer window doesn't close until 2 sept so plenty of time.
Prem and the cship window closes 3w earlier so once that happens more clubs we know where they stand
Also players who are out of contract will lower their expectations
