He was truly awful. A left back who can't defend.

    Flatters to deceive.

On the plus side: Fast for his age. Good left foot.

On the minus side: Can't defend. Bad disciplinary record - dirty player IMO. Injury prone. The worrying thing for you Psaw is that Jones is now on a hat trick of relegations to the National League ...

I completely agree. Dan Jones was a senior player like others who all played their part in our relegation. Herein lies the problem and it only confirms what we already knew that they did not want to take any individual responsibility and it showed in the teams play that they were not working together as a team.

None of the senior players appeared to lead or take a game by the scruff of the neck from those who had been here the previous season before last. It was only when the likes of Doyle, O'Brien and Rose came in that we saw some fight, passion and endeavor.

If Cambridge are looking to the likes of our defensive cast offs then they must be strong contenders for relegation this season.

Not the best signing Cambridge will ever make. Quite good going forward and likely to score an occasional goal from a free kick, but often seemed to be way out of position, leading to one or more of the central defenders being dragged out of where they should have been.

That tackle on the Forest Green player was awful. He completely lost my support after that happened.

If you watch him specifically for a while you will notice he often looks like he forgets he's a footballer and then suddenly remembers and springs back into life, trying to use his pace to recover from his own mistake or lack of positional sense.

People say he's good going forward but in reality, he's just fast and can over lap quite well, there's nothing special about his crossing, sometimes he gets it into the box, sometimes it goes in the stand, standard League 2... He's not skillful so won't take anyone on unless it's a race and the only goal you're likely to see from him in open play is the one on your clubs twitter account he scored in training.

I actually don't think he's as bad as some Notts fans make out, he's fairly average on his day but he can be absolutely horrific on an off day, watch these highlights for his debut - https://youtu.be/2RjnrlW2hMQ He gets done for the first goal, the clip after that, the second goal you can see him jogging back without a care in the world and the third goal he gets made to look like a competition winner in a charity game.

He was horrendous in that Coventry game. His positioning for the first goal was ridiculous. Ironically he probably had his best game for the club in the playoff semi there later that season. That sums him up really - has the odd big of magic in his locker, but then has several absolute shockers each season. Was it Newport away last season where their fans were laughing at him every time he got the ball?

this is yet another symptom of our general malaise over getting on for a decade. Jones is a poor full back and seems like a bad egg but he's yet another Notts cast off who's been taken on by a higher team. Cambridge aren't that far above us as things stand (today at least) but one of our reserves has gone on to (marginally) better things, as has Elliott Hewitt.

It goes back to players like Alex Rodman and beyond and you can be sure that Enzio, Hemmings, Dennis, whoever else will be playing at a comfortably higher level than us (if we're playing at all) and probably doing reasonably well.

The lack of academy graduates is a similar issue in my view as we consistently fail to get the best out of what we have. I know there have been plenty of debates on here about which academy players were ever any good and inevitably some will have been overrated or just not made it. However for an academy which was only reintroduced a few years ago to have at least 3 players (Kole Lambert, Wildin regardless of whether the Arsenal link is genuine) and even Colby Bishop) be taken on at far higher levels when there are so many other things which can go wrong before a youngster's career starts in earnest is a terrible indictment of our ability to nurture young talent.

What makes all the talk of Notts as a black hole and "unsustainable" is mainly down to this churning of players, kids, staff etc and general impatience / unwillingness to actually back our own judgement. The fact that we are where we are, hoping that someone like Smurf will stop us from dying was all so avoidable

O dear, it doesnt sound good. If he feels wanted and valued then maybe we might see a better player. Left back is a yawning weakness in our team, indeed the entire left side, and while im at it, the whole team is a weakness.

Our only goal next year is to stay up, weve got him on a years deal which is good, and i am sure we are paying him peanuts, and occasionally a few cashews.

And while im at it, Jones replaces Jake Carroll an impressively awful player who amazingly has signed for Motherwell as third choice. Div 4 is getting worse season by season.
