Thread: o/t work-gimmicks.

    o/t work-gimmicks.

Why does the modern worker need gimmicks to do a days work?

Non-uniform day, fat Tuesday, chocolate Friday, pyjama day, fancy dress day, headphones day!

Can't people turn up do the job and then f*ck off home, without all the gimmicks?

Does your workplace have these type of gimmicks?

No, but we do have specialist employee resource groups who meet regularly during work hours and send members off to various events and conferences. Grist would love it. There's a PRIDE group, one for women, one for blacks, one for latinos and one for Asian-Pacific islanders. The over 50 straight white men who make up the majority of the organisation just make do with going out for a beer after work.

When I worked at the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich we used to get an extra day holiday per year that the rest of the MOD didn’t get. It was called beanfeast and dated back to George the third who visited the Arsenal and was so impressed he granted the holiday. You had to be working on the site to qualify.

    Slacker

I must admit that my introduction to 'grown up' work was as a student during shut down at Brinsworth Strip Mills and Templeborough Rolling Mills. Not exactly the bastion of good work ethics but the beer and food in The Temple was enjoyable (especially when getting paid double time to sample them).

I visited the BBC,s Elstree studios about fif**** years ago to pick up something for a work colleague,s wife as I was passing by.
She was a Producer for top of the pops and I got a tour. There were some big names due 24,hours later including Madonna so I just missed out.
However there was an on site bar in the totp studio where beers and alcohol could be purchased all day long. This was even for lads who were erecting the sets and climbing rigging on rope ladder half drunk.
Apparently it was something that the Unions demanded at the time

All those working on the site when he visited, would be dead now.
