I think you're right aboot Blue River. It was quickly discontinued.

There was a fecht in Pat Grant's doonstairs gentlemen's parlour one Saturday morning when a queue-jumper was decked by a boy who seemed to be still bleezing fae the night before, and there was a right tarty hair-lopper (nae pics, apologies) who once regaled me aboot having been propositioned by three young loons at a gig in the Capitol the night before who were affa interested in whether or not she was wearing stockings. She said they almost ran a mile when she said that she wisna wearing stockings, nor knickers, sorry, but would they like a look? The folly of youth, and slightly mair entertaining than discussing how busy one is at work, or where one will be holidaying in the summer.

Pat Grant's would be a miss but I'm in no need of a barber these days (with or without knickers)

I mind going in age 14, the day before returning to bloody school.
Sat down with a traditional loons fringe, took out a photo of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust and said "dae it like that"
Asked whether I had the money I confidently displayed a 50p piece.

He did it anyway and I left 50p short but with very sticky up hair, proudly displaying a myriad of plooks which had been covered up by the fringe.
The entire visual effect caused me major problems at school the day after (and I hadn't even dyed it red yet)

    Back to Blue River.
Folk kept esso blue paraffin in ale bottles in sheds which caused a bit of a problem.
Not much difference in the taste as far as I can remember.
