It's already out there Patty repeated twenty, thirty times by others who know more about it than us.

I know it's a dirty word in football but that's the basis of franchising, only allow teams to exist that have sufficient financial support and fan bases. Seems to have worked OK for MK Dons!

    Expelling Bury and Bolton.
How many more times are the EFL going to kick the can down the road and continue to allow the competition they are responsible for descend even further into farce?
The current situation with these two clubs is nonsensical and impacting unfairly on other clubs.
Then, when the EFL have grasped the nettle and taken that difficult decision, it must urgently review its processes and be prepared to implement radical change with the objective of preventing similar situations happen again.
None of this will happen of course and ineptitude will remain the order of the day.

Still convinced clubs who operate properly should be awarded bonus points in the league. Also think that clubs should be awarded extra points for using home grown talent. Worrever, like you say Mellow, the EFL needs to make some radical changes to stop this happening.

The EFL has to operate within its own rules. It can't suddenly decide to do its own thing and expel clubs on a whim. If it did, it would end up in court.

Thete's probably room for changing the rules - perhaps to create a requirement that clubs demonstrate their viabilty prior to the start of the season.

Bolton need to be dealt with - within the rules of the competition - for unilaterally calling off the Doncaster game and there is no reason to believe that they won't be.

In the case of Bury, I think the EFL has been generous with time, but that's probably because they are trying to keep the club alive.

    On a whim?
Both clubs have been told several times that they will be expelled from the league if they fail to meet criteria that has been set by the EFL. Both clubs have repeatedly failed to do that.
The EFL has this evening issued a further statement warning Bolton that they could be kicked out if they don't meet yet another deadline.
One could be forgiven for thinking the EFL don't even know what their own rules are and it would be hard to argue with that.
What is more important, keeping alive a couple of clubs who have operated beyond their means or protecting the integrity of the competition as a whole?
Nothing will improve until some radical decisions are taken.

It does seem as though the EFL have no policy on this and they are making it up as they go along

So if Bury survive and are able to start playing matches, are they in the same predicament as Bolton ie. An handful of seniors and the rest of the squad made up of youth players? Will they be getting battered every week like Bolton are?
On one hand, it's not good practise for these clubs to have to operate this way. But on the other hand I don't think either club should be allowed to strengthen their squads, certainly not in Boltons case.
They should both be demoted to L2, have all their fixtures cancelled and in Boltons case, results voided, then start next season on minus 35 points. Bolton on minus 41 points. -3 points for cancelling the Brentford match last season and -3 for the Donny cancellation.

11 months is a long time to go without matchday income so arrange a compensation package based on last seasons matchday incomes and half it.

Bolton and Bury wouldn't see this as a fair solution but it would suit the other 22 clubs and restore the integrity of the division.

I think Bury have a few out of contract players who may come back plus some free agents lined up so it may not all be kids in their first XI.

I was wondering what deadlines the efl has set itself in this process because it's really important that these two clubs have fit and proper owners so we're not in this mess again in 12 months time.

It's no good a lot of negotiating going on to meet the Tuesday deadlines if the efl then turn round on Wed and say they are not worthy owners.
So when are the efl going to make a statement that they would be happy for these two organisations to be custodians of a FL club.
Bearing in mind we,RE in the middle of a bank holiday
