After the summer we've had, anybody who thought we had a chance of promotion must be completely delusional. We may be a "big club" for this league, but the reality is we've got a team thrown together in two weeks, some of whom have not even had a full pre-season. If we had a bad pre-season last year, we've had a disastrous one this year, because of the chaos of the takeover. And it doesn't help that virtually every team we play will regard us as their biggest potential scalp. We'll be playing cup ties every week.

Ardley's brief this season must be to get through what will inevitably be a very difficult start, where our players are several weeks behind those of other clubs in terms of preparation, and then to stabilise the club so that we can go into next season as a more competitive force. It may well be that we finish the season in the bottom half like Chesterfield did last year, but hopefully towards the end of the season our results will be getting stronger and giving more cause for hope in the future.

He's had to rebuild a team in the space of about a week though so to be fair to him last season's PPG compared to this season's is kind of irrelevant. It's not even about needing time to gel as it is at least letting the players know eachothers names. Graham and Rawlinson had one training session at best, Graham signed quite late (or was at least announced late) so he might not have even trained with everyone on Monday and the team we put out on Saturday was like making a sunday roast out of whatever leftovers you could find in the fridge.

Until he's got a proper team together it's very harsh to judge him on this seasons performances so then it's down to whether you give him any leeway for last season with the dressing room cliques that were going on

He's had 2 transfer windows and 3/4 of a season, a lot more time than others are usually given. We signed players recently but some of them have been with the team for 5 weeks.

Last seasons ppg is certainly not irrelevant, that's ridiculous. He had ample time to turn it round and a transfer window but had little impact. Sol Campbell managed to turn Macc round with a budget probably half the size and way adrift at the bottom.
