They're a breed of their own football chairmen aren't they.

Pretty horrible listening in an exchange between Bury Chairman Steve Dale and Stephen Dawson.

But how long can the issue of playing games be allowed to continue?

Bury's match against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday has become the Shakers' sixth game to be suspended, while Steve Dale has rejected an offer to buy the club.

Bury, who could be expelled from the English Football League on Friday, have also been removed from the Carabao Cup.

The EFL has said it is "frustrated at the lack of progress" made as it seeks evidence that Bury can pay creditors and have funding for the season ahead.

Owner Dale is believed to have refused an offer made by a former chairman.

It is understood the offer would have secured the survival of the League One outfit, with the ex-chairman told that Dale believes he can get a better offer.

The EFL have also confirmed that if Bury are expelled, the League One season will be completed with 23 teams, with the number of relegation places reduced to three.

MP begs EFL to stop Bury FC 'extinction'
It added that it remains in "regular communication" with Dale but that "if a solution is not found by the deadline, the board will authorise the necessary share transfer on behalf of Bury FC which shall be legally binding on all parties and result, regretfully, in the club no longer being a member of the League".

If Bury are removed from the league, the EFL says the club "would then be free to make an application to the Football Association to rejoin league competition further down the English football pyramid from season 2020-21".

Bury staff issued a statement on 12 August which "implored" Dale to accept an offer for the club, who are yet to play a competitive fixture this season.

They have had five successive League One fixtures suspended, while their withdrawal from the Carabao Cup means Sheffield Wednesday have received a bye to the second round, when they will play Rotherham United.

The 134-year-old Shakers have already been given a 12-point deduction for the season after entering into a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) - which is classed as an insolvency event by the EFL - to try to clear some of their debts.

Bury saw a winding-up petition against them dismissed by the High Court on 31 July, while Dale claimed the EFL was "working against" them.

It’s looking like what may have been a nightmare scenario for us is starting to look a real possibility for Bury.

Yet again there is the scenario where brinksmanship appears to be at play between the current chairman and former chairman while Rome burns so to speak.

I feel for the fans, they are the ones that suffer and deserve better.

English Football has got a lot of soul searching to do if come Friday it loses a club like Bury with 134 years of history.

Of course the only way to limit issues like Bury and also to a large extent Notts is to regulate over spending further. Both teams spent crazy money on large squads. In Notts case it got us relegated and Burys case it got them promoted. Ultimately both teams will end up in a lower position than they started as a direct result of this over spending and financial mis-management which in both cases has been largely caused by the businesses that supported the over spending going pop! There are a lot of calls for the FA to bail out Bury and there were to a lesser extent for Notts. I don't believe that the FA should have to do this as it ultimately not their responsibility to act as a parent and bail out their kids but is definitely is their responsibility to have the rigor in place to stop such incidents occurring with the frequency that they do. If Football clubs are going to spend so far beyond their actual means, they should have to produce proof of funds available in the event of such catastrophes that is held in trust for a period of time or similar, as opposed to winging it which both Chairmen have done. Bury will surely end up non league one way or another, Notts already are and Bolton are heading the same way as well. For all the criticism of Salford, Flyde and so on at least they have ownership which appears to be able to back them in the long term to achieve success rather than an 18 month flight of fancy.

It is essentially down to financial management but if the rich boys at the top just skimmed off a little more to feed the grass roots then the game as a whole would be much healthier.
Never happen though as they would love a closed shop with no outsiders getting a slice of their pie.

Whilst I dont disagree with more money coming down the pyramid I don't think it would solve the problem. It would more than likely simply increase other costs , agent fees, wages, and so on. There will always be people in the lower leagues ( I am not talking oil Sheikhs here) who are prepared to chuck a few million at some random team to get them up the leagues as a pet project in essence. That's ok but it has to be regulated and sustainable. I guess we are talking about 2 different issues.

Regulation doesn’t work. There will always be clubs that go under. If Bury go under it will be under a heavily regulated regimen.

I hope and believe Bury will survive, this is egos at play, my cocks bigger than yours etc.

We know where that got Mr Hardy.
