I was bought Football Monthly as a 'treat'. I enjoyed it and looked forward to getting the annual at Xmas. I cannot remember the name but there was a magazine that appeared sometime about 1969 that I used to buy. It used to feature the then relatively unknown Mick Channon a lot. Bought a few copies of FourFourTwo when it first appeared.

I remember a mag called WSC, When Saturday Comes, but I think a lot of these now have gone online rather than a physical mag. I often wonder who buys magazines anyway? I see racks and racks of em on the shelves in Sainsburys. I generally read the car mags in the shop
I lot of them tend to be well fingered

'Charles Buchan's Football Monthly' to my mind was the doyen of football magazines in the sixties and seventies. I also had the 'Soccer Star' which was a weekly magazine. There was also a publication called 'World Soccer' although I don't think it lasted very long.

Charles Buchan Football Annual was always on my Xmas list. We definitely need a Roy of the Rovers type striker. He scored quite a few for Melchester Rovers.

Lets keep good possession but not without shots on target and shots into goals.
    Agreed to an extent.

'Good' possession of the ball in areas you want to play denies your opponent the opportunities it presents you. 'Bad' possession of the ball in areas of the pitch your opponent is happy for you to play in wastes time and opportunities. Defensive sides like Millwall for instance sit narrow and deep and look to exploit on the break at speed or from set pieces.

We controlled possession of the ball while they controlled where we played and therefore the game itself without need of the ball. They invited us to play across them and in from wide so they could defend in numbers as we did under Roy Hodgson. The way to beat Roy's Albion was to up the tempo and play through our lines at speed. I didn't mention TP as we rarely counterattacked .

Shots from range are fine so long as they're decent attempts and you follow up on the ball. Keeper spills it and you're in on goal. Defenders panic when balls are played through at quick tempo too and you win penalties like with Reading.

There's more than one way to play percentage football. Up tempo, speed of thought and movement off the ball in areas of the pitch we want to be in and we'll score bucket loads as exampled by Fulham when they played Millwall.
