Quite a few of the Glasgow bands from the 80's were overrated dross - Wet, Wet, Wet, Deacon Blue, Texas to name a few.
If the Beatles might be overrated the The Rolling Stones definitely are - the last good album they did was in 1972.

What's wrong with using an Echoplex to make tunes?

You cant say rolling stones then say 1972.

They’ve been their own tribute act since then.
I saw them in 1976 and even then I only went for the nostalgia.

There’s a YouTube clip where they interview Mick Jagger ( posh b’astard) then he goes on to sing Little Red Rooster.

The change in atmosphere when he starts singing is amazing.
That’s what you judge these bands on, their own time, not what they become

I have an issue with the Stones in that I've seen them three times (76, 82, 99) and live they've not really cut it. Yet they will forever have my respect for introducing me to bottleneck guitar in 1964 when I saw Brian Jones with a bit of pipe on his finger making this emotional noise on Little Red Rooster on whatever BBC music show it was.

I've heard the "nae eese since Exile On Main Street" cliché so often that I compiled a playlist of Stones' songs a couple of years back, from albums since EOMS, that can hold their heads up in the company of Paint It, Black or Street Fighting Man. In fact, I''d say that Some Girls is among their best as a whole album, and that Time Waits For No-one is Mick Taylor's finest 8 minutes.

I loved their hit Fool to Cry proved Jagger could sing and not just be a noise .

I got banned from every HMV in London. In fact I think it was in the UK because of them.

The Monkees that is. I'm guessing you mean the same group.
