    o/t sins of the Fathers

Watched a snippet on ch4 news the other night about how Edinburgh University have apologised for how the university profited from the slave trade. It has now pledged £20 million pounds worth of investment to the countries affected.(A cynic might suggest this is a calculated marketing ploy to enrol students from these countries and chain them to a lifetime of debt).

This made me thing about the whole raft of apologies that have been made over the years, such as Tony Blair apologising for the potato famine, Australian government apologising to aborigines etc.

What do the MM punters think about all this?

Recently went to Seville, a beautiful city essentially built by slave trade profits. They don't hide that fact nor apologise for it. The old slave market site is a tourist attraction like the bull ring is.

It's a left-wing, anti-white thing, the Arab slave trade is totally ignored even though it was bigger and went on for much longer than European involvement in the transatlantic slave trade.

Our ancestors weren't slave owners anyway so why shoyld we feel guilty?

Most of our ancestors were a mile underground, in the dark, in a cramped space with a pickaxe digging out coal, I'd rather pick cotton TBH, at least you can see the sun and breathe fresh air.

Thought this was going to be a thread about Chicory Tip, not the usual predicable IBS stodge
So was IBS, usual suspects, etc expecting that Edinburgh University would issue a statement saying that the slave trade was a good thing?

How do you know chicory tip Mike, surely a young RCAT sociology student like yourself is too young to remember them?

Why did Edinburgh uni have to mention it at all?

Why not apologise to all the Scottish working class people who were no doubt exploited during the building of the Uni?

IBS is completely correct. The idea that a carpenter could turn up and expiate the sins of all Mankind is clearly bonkers. Well said.

Only because it was lost in translation.

He said "I will make you a chest of drawers to keep your sins in"

Note, God, Allah and various other deities always send their sons to save mankind.

The daughters end up at the BBC to satisfy a quota
