That's a shame. Another local shop bites the dust. I remember getting schoolbags there when I was a kid. Loved the smell of the place.
Sad to see that Thomsons the Cobblers has closed after many, many years making an old pal of mine Bobby Campbell redundant after working there for 44 years and also his colleague who had 41 years service. On the brighter side the Dougie (Douglas Arms) has opened again under new management after being closed for a while and the Urban Grill (Anaconda for our older viewers) is re - opening as a food outlet serving Pan - Asian cuisine and - wait for it - called the '' Chow Baby '' Another eaterie opening soon down on the Whitesands is a place specialising in North African / French grub.

It’s quite depressing walking through Dumfries town centre and seeing all the empty shops but there is several hidden gems if only people could get off their butts and stopped buying online. Shop local folks
Totally agree Aloreburn, - shop local should be everyone's mantra. What really irks me is that for the saving of sometimes very little in monetary value is then made worse by yet another white van clogging up our streets and adding to the carbon footprint, while at they same time helping to close down our High Street.
To be fair, Dumfries is actually better than most towns of a similar size, but why big government can't close the gap in terms of prices on-line by adding various taxes I'll never know. They'll do it when it's too late of-course. An on-line tax should apply to all purchases on-line, and a further green tax should be added for items delivered to your door. As for next day delivery, there should be another hike there to make it prohibitively expensive.
I remember reading an article about a bicycle themed cafe/restaurant opening on the Whitesands, has that opened yet?
That's a shame about the Cobblers. Know Bobby well, as we were in the same class at the Academy. As far as I recall he went straight to Thomsons on leaving school.
Handbag Heaven on the High Street is closing down. Sorry ALBERTZ
