    Sheffield Wednesday Post Match Thoughts

As Yogi Berra once said "It's deja vu all over again". Seemed like a pretty even game according to the stats. except of course we took twice as many fans as they did. There's an expression about concentrating on the league that comes to mind!

Thoughts on tonight's events? I'm off to do some work now.

Glad I wouldn't be in the trenches with any of them

“A deserved winner” was how the BBC described the late goal.

There’s a much more important game on Saturday so playing so many first team players tonight seemed a bit bizarre.

Thought we were the better team until they brought Bannan on - their only quality player. Shows what difference having a midfield general makes. 4-3-3 not working very well tonight as we struggled to create clear chances and our forwards tended to get in each other's way

Olosunde got kicked a lot with little protection from the ref, and was limping far away from the action when Pigs scored. Let's hope that he is ok. His injury and us not having a specialist left back playing, cost us late in the game as the Fowls exploited the flanks. We couldn't do the same as we've got no wingers!

Iversen played well and kept us in the game towards the end. Vassell had a good first half, and was the sponsors M.o.M , but never really got close to scoring.

Can't believe some Millers fans. On the way out I heard half a dozen Millers fans saying words to the effect of 'there was nothing between the two sides".

    Come off it!!!!

That goal was coming from 70 minutes onwards when Wednesday moved up a gear. They really were toying with us . I hate to say it but Wednesday managed the game superbly.

They got through to the next round by only putting some in effort into it from 70 minutes onwards. Thus keeping their players fresh for Saturday.

We are also awful to watch. We can't produce any clear cut chances.

Also Kyle Vassel is rubbish. MOM ????

We should be off loading him and keeping the far superior Jamie Proctor.

We’ve simply got to put our efforts away end of.
Ladapo one on one with the keeper first half!

We’ve also got to shoot earlier instead of trying to push the ball further..... just ferkin shoot the first chance you’ve got.

One thing that is frustrating is not one of the three up front, knows who’s playing centre forward. We’re playing too narrow.

Credit to Bullen, he brought Bannan on and he changed the game. Scramble in our area and a smash and grab completed.

We had matched them blow for blow but we were out on our feet with 20 to go.
Barlaser makes us tick. Once he went off we started giving the ball away cheaply.
Vassell was awful and made very poor decisions. No idea who picked MOTM but it was Wiles.
After 20 mins it was crying out for 442 and bringing MacDonald on for Vassell would have been welcomed by me at half time.
There was no balance with no natural width. Especially down the left. Nor was there any plan B. The personnel changed but the system didn’t.
Wednesday sensed we was on the ropes. They brought on a couple of quality players and finally finished us off.
We showed plenty of effort. Just fell a little short on quality.
I honestly think not playing for over 2 weeks has hurt our sharpness.

    .
Yes - far too often "one touch too many". Several good chances to at least test their keeper were wasted
