    The Mellish signing.

So whats the verdict on this player.? When you signed him I labelled him a failure, not because I know anything about him, but because of his history.

He’s played some time at left-back but it’s obviously not his natural position. He may make a centre-back one day. He’s been ousted by better players so he’s currently warming the bench. He’s a way off being the finished article.

He has left now, but we had a person who used to work for Tottenham, and his job was to look at cvs and recommend signings. I am sure he was responsible for United signing Jake Carroll who had played European football for an Irish club, and had played, briefly higher up.

We actually paid a fee for him when he was a Hartlepool reserve. It is essential to watch a player before signing them, as if United had, we could never have signed such a hopeless failure.
As with Mellish, why sign a player that is not up to the job?. Did they watch him?. Were they panicking? If thay had not signed Mellish would they now be short of players because they cant afford anything better? Its all bad. Isnt it. Im impressed you haven't bull wotsitit me.

I think he had finished with Gateshead, who were skint anyway, and had got player of the month a few times and a ‘lower’ England cap, so we saw him as a prospect. Not sure if we watched him, but we generally do only target players that we’ve researched. The point is, we only research players that fit within our budget, i.e. they’re cheap. He fitted the bill.
