Disagree, second half especially we were poor. We took our chances but overall we didn’t perform as we should have, pissed off we sat back the second half

With the loss of bigger crowds, more trophies, history etc, the very last grasping at straws thing that the frothing Funsters have over us is that they scored 7 against United in some match in Nine**** Oatcake. That’s now twice in four years where we’ve had the opportunity to put that one, and the Dees, firmly to bed. So, like you, I’m pissed off we didn’t push on on Friday particularly unlike 2015 when we got the fifth so quick. TBF to the Funsters, Johnston was taken off and the Cop Beater put on, clearly to flood the midfield and stabilise the ship. We then seemed content to manage the game and let them pass it about. Frustrating as that was they may have had more possession but Siegrist actually had very little to do and ultimately we still actually won the second half 2-1. So although it wasn’t great, I would put the performance under the category of ‘frustrating’. Which is a nice problem to have when you’re scoring 6 (SIX). Again.

Think we've all seen us playing poor before, especially over the last 4 seasons but Friday wasn't one of them days. We took the foot off the pedal at 5-1up ffs. If at that point the game was tighter then I'd maybe have had concerns.

One thing that no one has mentioned but it is significant,we were 4-1 up shooting up the hill.At the start of the 2nd half we go 5-1 up playing to the end we prefer but rather than go for the jugular we allowed the Dees to stagger to their feet and start swinging punches.A lot has been made of the McGowan effect but that only happened because we gave up the ball.
The Dees matched us up playing 4-4-2 because they thought our defence was our weak point, what none of us on both sides knew however is their defence is actually worse than ours. Its unlikely we will see the Dees play 2 up front against us again this season even at Dens.

Think you're right about the 4-4-2...but the turning point of the game was Connolly getting hurt up to that point it was anybody's game ...I believe he was the reason we went 4-4-2 but Mcpake's mistake was not changing our set up at that point...but to be fair to him we'd just scored and were looking ok...with Harkes in in place of Butcher United started to play through midfield instead of missing it out as they had been and looked more solid at the back too...by the time McGowan came on the game was gone...but we live to fight another day...roll on the next one not long to wait

Good analysis Peter cant really argue with that. Look forward to visiting my favourite away ground again in.a couple of months with Pawlett and McMullen on fire again...hope you are also looking forward to your five at the back turning up that time...
