After today’s league games we have dropped two places to 11th but remarkably still only 5 points off the play off’s with a game in hand thanks to Sutton beating Harrogate. Good wins for both Boreham Wood and Stockport see them leapfrog us.

    We are down to 19th in the last 6 form table W1 | D3 | L2 | PTS 6 | GF 10 | GA 10.

The points needed chart, which I think is what most people found interesting is starting to look a depressing again. Currently averaging 1.37 PPG so would finish the season on 63 pts, 12 points off our target of 75 pts to ensure a place in the play off's.

Looking at others in the league Barrow appear to be unstoppable at the moment. Since beating us Chesterfield have now gone a run of 6 games without a win and have a fair bit to do to avoid being in a relegation scrap come the new year. Torquay, just above us in the league have now lost 5 games on the bounce and Halifax are just hanging on to 7th place with form over the last 6 similar to Notts.

Still a long way to go but unless we put another string of results together like we did over September and October, safety and a mid table finish look like the best we can hope for.

FA Trophy next week away to out of form Chesterfield. A chance to get a cup run going and a trip to wembley . . .

The glaring thing in those stats imo is the shots compared to attacks.

    Sutton - dangerous attacks 51, attacks 79, shots 14 - 4 on target
    Notts - dangerous attacks 50, attacks 105, shots 10 - 5 on target

I'm not worried about the defence in general but they must cut out basic errors.

We need to convert the attacks into attempts - sounds so simple!

The glaring thing for me is that we had 33% more attacks than Sutton, but in effect absolutely none of them were dangerous. We are going backwards and desperately need someone to drive the team forward from the centre of the park.

    Preview - Halifax Town (A).

From what I can find on tinterweb tomorrow will be the 24th time we have faced Halifax Town in a competitive match. The first time we played them ended in a 1-1- draw at their place in 1958 in the 3rd division. The last time we played them was obviously earlier this season, a 1-0 win for us with only 10 men after Popeye got himself sent of almost immediately after half time. For me this still remains the best 45 mins I have seen Notts play for a long time.

    Record against Halifax Town P23 | W 11 | D6 | L6 | GF 39 |GA 29.

    Current Form (last 6):
    Notts W1 | D3 | L2 | GF 10 | GA 10 | PTS 6
    Halifax W1 | D3 | L2 | GF 6 | GA 9 | PTS 6

Halifax haven't won at home in the league since beating Barnet 4-2 back in September. However they did despatch Wrexham from the FA Trophy at home last week with a convincing 4-0 win.

Notts last win in the league was the 4-0 win away at Woking at the end of October, the only other two wins since then have been away to Ebbsfleet in the FA Cup and away to Chesterfield last week in the FA Trophy.

Latest odds show Halifax slight favourites with Bet365 offering 11/8 on a home win, 15/8 for a Notts win and 12/5 on a draw.

Bit later than normal but latest progress and form etc after yesterdays win.

No real change in the last 6 form table due to the fact that the win against Halifax basically replaces our last win in the league against Woking, so W1 | D3 | L2 | Pts 6 | GD -2

PPG has increase fractionally to 1.44 which if maintained would see us finish on just over 66 pts, still 9 points shy of the 75 pts target we had set for a safe play off spot. Currently 7th place is averaging 1.6 PPG which would achieve just under 74 pts for the season.

We need to target a minimum of 6-7 points from the 3 Festive games. Maidenhead got stuffed 1-4 at home yesterday and are just the sort of team we have to beat if we're going to make the playoffs. Solihull away (in the words of the famous song) looks a more difficult one, but a point shouldn't be beyond us.

So the minimum target for a playoff spot is 37 points from 21 games based on scraping through on 73 points. This is 1.76 points per game from now until the end of the season. Only Barrow have a better ppg ratio than this at 1.96.

If we want a playoff spot then we need to be displaying title winning form from now until the end of the season. It looks a big ask and Christmas and New Year will tell us more.

We need to ideally win two of the three games over Christmas and New Year to keep up with this points target.

The heart says we can get in the playoffs but the head (and this seasons stats to date) says 10-14th place finish.

    Before ncfcog comes along as this is a stats thread Neal Ardley has now managed the club for 26 National League games which is the same amount of games he managed for us in League Two. The comparisons are as follows;

    League Two (18/19)

    P26, W6, D7, L13, GF26, GA43, GD-17 Pts 25

    Win Ratio = 24%
    PPG 1
    Season Total = 46 points

    National League (19/20)

    P26, W10, D9, L7, GF43, GA30, GD+13 Pts 39

    Win Ratio = 39%
    PPG 1.5
    Season Total = 69 points

    Total (League Games Only)
    P52, W16, D16, L20, GF69, GA73, GD-4, Pts 64

    Win Ratio = 31%
    PPG 1.23
    A Season Total = 57 points

That’s interesting MM. Definitely an improvement this season on last but so many factors to consider, which quite frankly have been done to death on this forum. Some will still question whether the overall improvement so far this season is enough. The promising aspect is our GD. It’s likely there will be a few teams in with a chance of a play off place come the end of the season and GD may well be a deciding factor.
